Damian Lillard’s demands to go to Heat could get him in trouble

The NBA is informing Damian Lillard and his agent, Aaron Goodwin, that if they continue commenting about only wanting to be traded to the Heat, he will face disciplinary action.

In the memo, the league also mentioned that any player or agent who comments on potentially refusing to perform a duty under a contract will also be subject to punishment. Lillard is the clear target here, but I’m sure the NBA wanted to spread the message.

Goodwin has denied ever making claims of that nature, but we all know that is just BS. Dame wants to go to Miami, it’s no secret at this point. I think it’s a little bush league to tell a team you only want to be traded to one team, especially after willingly signing an extension, but I also get having a preferred destination.

Again, I also think it’s wrong for an agent to tell teams to not even reach out to Portland because they aren’t the Miami Heat. If Lillard really wanted to go to the Heat, he could have signed with them, but he didn’t, so I don’t have much sympathy for him.

This whole thing started when Shams first reported that Lillard only wanted to play for the Heat.

We know that by “punish” the league really means a small slap on the wrist. I mean, Lillard wanting to play in Miami isn’t some sort of crime — we’ve seen players do things like this before. The issue becomes when your agent is actively telling teams to not even pick up the phone.

Ultimately, as long as Damian Lillard and Aaron Goodwin can keep their mouths shut, there shouldn’t be any problems.
