Alex Cora Wants His Players To Take After Patrice Bergeron

Patrice Bergeron announced his retirement from the NHL today. Brain-dead radio hosts that have an IQ of 12 have decided that they are going to trash Bergeron. Smart and respectful people like Alex Cora are giving Bergeron his flowers.

The Red Sox manager made some comments about Bergeron following the news of his retirement. It was nothing but class from Cora who said that players should consider Bergeron a role model to aspire to.

VIA NESN:

“He’s just steady, right. Something that we want our players to do, kind of like post everyday, be accountable, be genuine,” Cora said. “At one point when you play in this city for a long, long time, you become a guy or a person that you look up to. Been following social media the whole day and the messages and what he means not only to the Bruins but for the whole area is amazing.

“It gets to a point that you have to turn the page, close that chapter and write a new one. And hopefully for him, it’s one that is really good and enjoy his life however he wants to do it. And from our end, the organization and I bet other organizations in this city, we’re very proud of him and we thank him for his effort and what he means to the city.”

Bergeron, 38, was the consummate pro and was still at the top of his game even at an advanced age. Bergeron added his sixth Selke award at 38, which is just crazy. We’re also talking about a guy that consistently took pay cuts to make sure a competitive team stayed around him (something Brad Marchand talked about recently). Just something every team dreams of having in a player.

Everybody seems to understand that part unless you’re a noob that hosts a radio show in Boston.
