JJ Redick Is Expected To Replace Jeff Van Gundy?
Who is going to replace Jeff Van Gundy on ESPN? Van Gundy was part of the massive layoffs at ESPN and the company still hasn’t named a successor. It sounds like ESPN has a few names in mind for the job and an early front-runner has appeared. According to reports, JJ Redick sounds like the favorite to land the gig to call games with Mark Jackson and Mike Breen.
“J.J. Redick has zoomed to the top of the contenders’ list to join ESPN’s top NBA game broadcast team, sources tell Front Office Sports.”
“Redick, fellow ESPN analyst Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson, and four-time NBA head coach Doc Rivers are all in play to possibly succeed the laid-off Jeff Van Gundy, said sources.”
One name missing from that list is Doc Rivers who apparently is still in the mix for the job. Rivers remains unemployed after being fired by the 76ers during the offseason. Unless Doc lands another NBA job elsewhere, his hat remains in the mix for one of these jobs.
Redick, 39, joined ESPN in 2021. The former Duke product spent 15 years playing at the NBA level. Based on the work he’s done in the broadcasting field, I think fans would be happy with this hire if this is the route ESPN takes.
As for Van Gundy, his future remains murky. It’s possible he gets back into coaching but that remains a rumor at this time. Nothing concrete.
