Christian Pulisic Is Set To Sign With AC Milan

According to Fabrizio Romano, Christian Pulisic is moving to Italy.

AC Milan has signed the American superstar from Chelsea for a fee of €20 million ($21.9. million) with add-ons. Pulisic is the second former Chelsea player to move to Milan this summer, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek also joining the club earlier in July.

Pulisic has chosen to move to Milan over Lyon, who was also interested in signing him. The French club offered Chelsea €25 million ($27.2 million) for the American’s services. However, despite offering a higher fee, Pulisic ultimately rejected the Ligue 1 club’s advances as he only ever wanted to move to AC Milan.

Pulisic will now move to the Serie A after spending the last four years in the Premier League with Chelsea. He moved to Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 for a $65 million fee, which is still the record transfer fee for an American player.

He was touted for greatness at Chelsea, with many hoping he would fill the shoes of club-legend Eden Hazard. Pulisic did show flashes of brilliance during his time in South London, especially during the Premier League’s return from its COVID-19 break.

However, he has not been able to find consistent form for the Blues and has been languishing on the bench. Last season, Pulisic was only on the field for 813 minutes in all competitions for Chelsea. That is the equivalent of playing in only nine total games.

Injuries have been a major factor in his lack of success at Chelsea, including a knee injury that sidelined him for two months in January. Constant managerial changes and player competition had also made it difficult for Pulisic to find the field.

With his lack of playing time at Chelsea, Pulisic was seen as one of the players most likely to leave Chelsea this summer. He now joins an ever-growing list of players to depart the club this summer.

While it was fun watching Pulisic play in the Premier League, it had become obvious that he needed a change of scenery. He was unable to stay healthy, was losing confidence and just looked flat-out frustrated most of the time.

AC Milan is a good move for him. The club is playing in the Champions League this season, something that Chelsea will not be doing. They are also offering Pulisic a realistic path to playing time, something he was lacking at Chelsea.

At 24-years-old, Pulisic is still rather young. He has plenty of time to refind his best form and to become the elite player he has shown glimpses of being.

Also, keep this in mind. Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah both left Chelsea at young ages to secure more playing time. De Bruyne permanently left when he was 22 and Salah permanently left when he was 24. Now, both of these players are world-class.

I’m not saying Christian Pulisic will be as good as De Bruyne or Salah. What I am saying, however, is that he is still young and can still become an elite player. Chelsea was clearly not a good fit, and now he has the freedom to prove himself once again.

Best of luck, Captain America.
