Panthers Eyeing Heavy Workload For Miles Sanders
Is Miles Sanders now a three-down running back? It appears that is exactly what’s going to happen in 2023. The Panthers gave Sanders the largest guarantee out of any running back signing him from Philly this offseason and plan on using him accordingly.
A report from The Athletic (don’t bother clicking the link. It’s behind the paywall cheese) echoed the sentiment that Sanders will touch the ball this year a lot for Carolina.
“I think it’ll happen organically just by the coaches that we have here,” the 26-year-old said, via Joe Person of The Athletic (subscription required). “And they know exactly what type of back I am… I’m looking forward to getting back into that three-down-type back and just flow with it and see what happens.”
“Miles [is] just a versatile, three-down back” Reich recently said of Sanders, who comfortably sits atop the RB depth chart. “He’s really, in a lot of ways, a complete back. We really look for that in that No. 1 spot. Want [him] to be on the field all three downs.”
Keep in mind, Duce Staley is the running back coach with the Panthers now who was very familiar with Sanders during their time with the Eagles together. It also should be mentioned that Chuba Hubbard stinks and the Panthers have no one else to give the ball to at the running back position.
Sanders’ fantasy owners should rejoice at this news. I haven’t seen a fantasy rankings list out there yet where Sanders is a top-15 back. Based on the volume that is expected to come, maybe Sanders will significantly outperform where he’s currently being ranked.
