Most of the ESPN layoffs to this point have been on air personalities. This time ESPN is axing a member of the blogging staff. MLB writer Joon Lee has been fired and relieved of his duties at ESPN. Lee has been primarily tasked with covering the Boston Red Sox and has done a good job covering the team. Apparently, not well enough to ESPN’s liking.
Lee shared the news via social media:
My time at ESPN is over
— Joon Lee (@joonlee) June 30, 2023
Incredibly grateful for all the opportunities I received over the last four-plus years. I got to live out my literal childhood dream job, worked with some of the most talented people and made so many friends.
Really excited to see whatever comes next
Joon’s pinned tweet is a blog proclaiming Masataka Yoshida as the Japanese Juan Soto. If you want to check it out, this is the link to do so. These are the kind of blogs that Lee was putting out on a consistent basis. Lee didn’t only blog about the Red Sox but that was his primary duties at ESPN. The decision to part with Lee isn’t a surprising one considering the fact that they hold Buster Olney near and dear to their heart. Olney openly hates the Red Sox and ESPN has never prioritized covering the team.
Someone pass the message along to Joon if possible. Vendetta Sports has an open offer to him to come work here. Hopefully, we can make that happen. If not, I’m sure he will land on his feet just fine by joining another blogging network on the MLB side of things. If Lee really wants to make a difference in the future that is to come, I hope he considers Vendetta as his next pit stop. We would love to have him.
