Draymond Green re-signs with Warriors for four years, $100 million

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has re-signed with the team on a four-year, $100 million deal, NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic was first to report Friday immediately at the start of the 2023 NBA Free Agency period.

Green, 33, averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 73 games last season, shooting 52.7 percent, 30.5 percent from 3-point range and 71.3 percent from the free-throw line. The four-time All-Star will now be back with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in hopes of contending for a fifth NBA title.

According to Warriors reporter Alex Golden of The Athletic, Green’s four-year deal will begin at $22.3 million, saving around $40 million in repeater luxury tax dollars compared to his $27.6 million player option he opted out of earlier in the offseason.

Green has anchored Golden State’s defense throughout their four-title-in-eight-year dynasty and has been a huge key to their versatility that’s helped make them so successful. He’s an eight-time All-Defensive selection and won defensive payer of the year in 2016-17, in addition to being a two-time All-NBA honoree and a four-time All-Star.

The Warriors will now have over $172 million allocated to Curry, Thompson, Chris Paul, Andrew Wiggins and Green next season, per Spotrac. Consequently, not including their cap holds the Warriors have $203 million — plus $155 million in luxury tax dollars — allocated to just 10 players, including first-round pick Brandin Podziemski.

It was difficult to envision the two parties not eventually agreeing to a deal–especially after Golden State dealt Jordan Poole for Paul last week.

This is a breaking news story. Stay tuned for updates.
