Kenneth Murray 2020 NFL Draft Profile

We’re on to another 2020 NFL Draft profile. This time we’re going to go over Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray. The Sooners linebacker is a fascinating prospect to go over. When watching Murray at Oklahoma, he often looked like a man with his hair on fire. Murray is going to go in the first round but his ceiling feels like a big range of outcomes. Here we go. The biggest weakness in Murray’s game is his instincts. If I were drafting Murray, I would be concerned about this. Murray has a hard time locating the football and finding the right hole to attack. Murray legit is blind. This video I’m about to show you happens often.

Murray might not have great instincts, but he plays with his hair on fire. Chad said this during one of our draft shows. He might not have the best instincts but if he’s going a million miles an hour, he’s going to find the football. In terms of run and chase splash plays, Murray has A LOT of them.

When Kenneth Murray is able to see the play, he swallows you. I don’t even know if he knows what he’s doing. Does it really matter? With some good coaching, you’re getting some splash plays. 4.52 speed and able to run sideline to sideline at 241 pounds. Murray is just an explosive athlete. 21 bench reps and a 38 inch vertical works for me.

The Big 12 doesn’t have a lot of great defenders, but Kenneth Murray was probably the best one. One of the underrated aspects to Murray is ability to rush the passer. He’s such an explosive athlete that he’s able to make noise blitzing. What makes Murray so valuable is that he can run in space and get after the quarterback. Murray averaged almost 15 tackles for loss over the last two years. When the Sooners linebacker comes down hill, he’s a piss missile.

Murray is much better running and catching rather than pure cover skills. However, given the athletic traits, you feel he will keep getting better in that aspect. The range and burst Murray has really makes him special. He’s got good size too and rarely misses tackles. When he hits you, it’s usually a hard tackle coming. It’s just a matter of containing that over aggressive nature sometimes. Regardless, you will take the good with the bad.

The pros are easy to spot. Explosive tackler with the ability to close in fast. The negatives are sometimes he just misreads the play and doesn’t find the ball. At the end of the day, I’m a fan of Murray. Figure out a way to use his talent and let him fly. I wouldn’t have any hesitation picking Murray. The talent is too good to pass on.
