Why is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, also known as KCP, even playing in the NBA? Even if he somehow deserves to be in the NBA, why are the Lakers giving him minutes? The man has never been actually that good.
KCP has shown year after year that he isn’t even worth the trouble of having on your roster. He’s never averaged over 15 PPG, 3 APG, and only averaged 5 RPG one season. Let me see if you heard this before, the Lakers overpaid for him. His best season was 4 years ago! He was still with the Detroit Pistons then. This season he is averaging…*checks notes* 3.7 PPG on 23% shooting, 1.7 APG, and 2 RPG. That’s just his stats too! Have you ever watched him play? He’s a bonehead. Considered a decent scorer, he’s been everything but that since then.
If you really think KCP deserves to be in the NBA, then so does Carmelo Anthony (he doesn’t). Just because you can prove you could get a bucket in the past doesn’t mean you should be on a team. Scoring is overrated in this today’s NBA, basketball has always been a game of fundamentals, give me a player that knows what to do and helps the team overall. I see Lakers fans pleading to take KCP out, even when he was averaging over 10 points. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is a wasted roster spot and a waste of cap room for the Lakers. If the Lakers are really looking to improve their roster. They would trade him for a bag of chips or just release him. If they trade them for that bag of chips at least they can have a snack for him. If he doesn’t get traded and does get released, I think his time in the NBA is done.
