The Tampa Bay Buccaneers let DeSean Jackson and Adam Humphries walk this offseason. Tampa had a method to their madness. They already knew something that everyone else was going to find out. Chris Godwin is on the verge of stardom. After a 8 catch, 121 yards, and a touchdown performance against the Panthers, Godwin is only just getting started. Tampa doesn’t just have one elite wide receiver. They have two.
When coaches speak in the offseason, I listen. Covering news in the offseason is vital to fantasy football success. When Bruce Arians said that Chris Godwin would catch 100 balls this season, I never batted an eye. In fact, it made too much sense not to happen. Arians knew what the Bucs had in Godwin. He has two touchdowns in the first two games of the season averaging almost 16 yards per catch. If you’re not on the Godwin train, you better jump on before it’s too late.
During the 2017 NFL Draft, there were 4 receivers I LOVED that had steal written all over them. Two of them are flops (Chad Hansen and Zay Jones). Two of them are studs (Cooper Kupp and Chris Godwin). However, it’s the former Penn State receiver who will probably emerge as the best of the group. In hindsight, I should have known Godwin was THE guy. Elite speed, big bowl game, plus route running, and great hands. All of those things have translated to the NFL.

There’s just so much that stands out about Godwin. Great body control, fights for yards after the catch, wins on routes, and plus speed. While Mike Evans is receiving most of the attention, Godwin is winning his battle on the other side of the field. If he continues to do that, teams will be forced to pay more attention to him allowing Mike Evans to dominate. Godwin opens up this offense in more ways than one.
Chris Godwin is a star. He might not be Mike Evans. Godwin may be closer than you think and that’s saying something. Tampa has two star receivers. The Bucs just might have the best wide receiver tandem in the league. No, I’m not crazy either. Chris Godwin is that good.
