2024-2025 AFC Championship Preview: #2 Bills at #1 Chiefs

Sadly, we only have two NFL Sundays remaining for the 2024-2025 season. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t get hyped up about these conference title games taking place today. Chickster took care of the NFC Championship, and in this one, we take a look at the AFC Championship game and bring you a preview of what’s to come.

For the Kansas City Chiefs, they are one step away from playing for a three-peat, becoming the first team in NFL history to accomplish this feat. They have home-field advantage, the best quarterback-head coach combo in the NFL, and some of the most roccus fans in the league. They have beat the Houston Texans to get here, and arguably face their biggest test of the season with the lights on the brightest, which is where Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid shine.

For the Buffalo Bills, America’s team this Sunday, they have a chance to buck the defending champs from the postseason and reach their first Super Bowl since 1994. Josh Allen has played at an MVP level this season, the ground game is firing on all cylinders, and the defense has stepped up at the biggest moments of the season. To get here, the Bills beat Denver in the Wild Card, and the Ravens in the Divisional round.

How The Bills Can Win

Impose Their Will On The Ground

To begin this AFC Championship game preview, we take a look at how the Buffalo Bills can storm into Arrowhead and pull off the upset. I believe this starts with dominating on the ground. The Chiefs have the number eight rush defense entering today, but this Bills team has run all over every opponent they have faced to this point. James Cook and Josh Allen need to have a stellar day on the ground in order to put themselves in a position to win. Buffalo comes in today with the ninth-best rush offense in the league, what’s going to give?

Win The Turnover Battle

This Bills team has done an exceptional job during the postseason at limiting the turnovers on offense, and they will need to ride that train here if they want to have a chance to pull off the upset. Buffalo forced the Ravens into three costly turnovers last week, and have not committed a single turnover themselves in the last two games. Houston forced two fumbles last week against Kansas City, neither lost, so this Chiefs team can put it on the ground at times. Mahomes also threw for 11 interceptions this season, tied for fourth most in the league. If Buffalo can win the turnover battle today, it’ll go a long way in securing a victory.

How The Chiefs Can Win

Pressure, Pressure, Pressure

We now take a look at how the Kansas City Chiefs can win and advance to the Super Bowl in this AFC Championship game preview. The first step to success is to apply pressure on Josh Allen. Last week, the Chiefs sacked C.J. Stroud eight times, playing a huge part in their win. In covering the AFC Divisional round, I wrote that Allen had been sacked a league-least 14 times this season. Kansas City has to make life difficult for Allen when he drops back to pass, otherwise he can easily use his legs to beat them.

Making Sacrifices

In all seriousness…

Get Travis Kelce Involved Early

We all saw what happened last week against Houston. Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce going early, resulting in seven receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown. When this connection is on, even with Kelce perhaps losing a step, they are arguably the most lethal duo in the NFL. Andy Reid would be wise to script early passes to Kelce to get him in rhythm, forcing the quick adjustment from Buffalo to double-team him, resulting in more one-on-one opportunities on the outside.

Prediction:

America is riding with the Buffalo Bills today. We are all honorary members of Bills Mafia. This AFC Championship game preview ends with my prediction on how the game will end, and I believe we are in for an all-time classic. Whoever has the ball last, I believe, is going to come out victorious and stamp their berth in the Super Bowl. It’s so hard to pick against Mahomes and Reid, but momentum this time of year is huge, and the Bills are playing their best football right now, so I am going to ride the hot hand.

Final Score: Buffalo Bills 27 – Kansas City Chiefs 24
