2023 NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 6

Not a big post this week for the 2023 NFL Draft Stock report notes. Sorry, but we’re in peak sports season. The MLB playoffs were on and I just had to watch the Blue Jays and Mets on the brink of elimination. Add in puck drop for the NHL (Sharks vs. Predators) and the college slate becomes real limited. It just is what is is. Yeah, I have flare and range. That’s just me.

Furthermore, this isn’t a great slate, to begin with. There are only three games for Week 6 that are even featuring a matchup where both teams are ranked. Accept this slate and be thankful I’m alive.

Okay, on tap we have Tennessee vs. LSU, and Auburn vs. Georgia. Yes, that’s all you’re getting but I promise I won’t skimp out. Let’s get after it.

Tennessee

Blow out city. Not that it was surprising. We made a very confident bet on Tenn -2.5 and they may as well have won by 100.

Hendon Hooker, hey, not a bad day. 17/27 for 239 yards and two scores. The offense here obviously helps him tremendously. Makes him play fast which is the only way he’s going to work. The deep ball accuracy is more impressive than anyone wants to admit. He’s not the most accurate guy in the world but this offense just makes life so easy. Up tempo, quick decisions, let the athlete go make plays with match ups he likes.

I still think we’re looking at a Josh Johnson / Dennis Dixon type guy. I think we have already seen a lot of the maturation process happen. Will be 25 (or maybe 26) before he even takes an NFL snap. Anything higher than a 4th round pick is probably a mistake. But… give him this. He throws the ball better than Malik Willis, right? So why can’t this work?

I think I’m starting to buy Bru McCoy more and more. Has shined without Cedric Tillman in the lineup. Seven receptions for 140 yards. I’ll just say this. McCoy can run and there is a thickness to his game. Looks tough to bring down. Has a physical presence. Really good size at 6-foot-3. I think I’m on the side of he’s better than Josh Palmer as a prospect.

LSU

Quiet day for Kayshon Boutte again outside of a garbage time touchdown. Look, Jayden Daniels is just terrible. Not a real quarterback. Never will be a real quarterback. I think we’re just going to have to wait until the combine here. Otherwise, we may just be wasting our time. He’s not going to shine this year in this environment.

As a player, I do like Boutte. He’s way shorter than Justin Jefferson but he is a slippery LSU kinda cat. His stock has to drop at least a little until we see him test. Hopefully, he tests.

Georgia

Game was never in doubt. Bryan Harsin needs to go yesterday. The bottom line here is Georgia has at least four NFL running backs on this roster. Daijun Edwards just needs some love. Guy runs hard. Looks nasty. Appears really powerful. Comes across as a bit jittery but when he makes his mind up, good things happen.

12 carries for 83 yards and three touchdowns in this one. I do not think he’s as fast as Zamir White but he looks like that kind of player. Might even be more talented. Very much unproven and need a bigger sample size.

Bonus: UCLA

UCLA is damn good. That’s all I’ll say. Dorion Thompson Robinson is a real athlete and Chip has built a team that can control the line of scrimmage. When they play USC, it’s must watch.
