Fantasy ain’t no cakewalk.
Even if you have a game plan going into the season, not everything goes to what you’d expect. I learned this the hard way during week two of Vendetta’s Fantasy baseball league. After a solid victory over Jiarmani, I was ready to continue my winning ways against Jerry.
You’d expect Sandy Alcantara, Aaron Nola, Drew Rasmussen, Freddy Peralta and Logan Webb to give you a ton of points throughout the week, right? Well, they failed me completely for this round of fantasy.
Alcantara amounted to -5 points, Peralta had -2, and Rasmussen had -7. Nola only totaled 16 points across two starts, and Logan Webb totaled 14. All in all, the pitching had produced 39 points.
Team Walker had some shining stars step up for him pitching-wise. Zac Gallen had 57 points, Corbin Burnes had 31, Yu Darvish had 28 and Kevin Gausman had 24. There was no beating that. His pitching amounted to a whopping 163 fantasy points!
At least my fantasy team stepped up to some extent offensively, producing 136 total points, which actually amounted to more than Team Walker who had 128. High performers included Yandy Diaz with 20, Sean Murphy with 24, and Brandon Nimmo with 25.
It seems what I need to do is sit here and hope that Alcantara, Nola, and the other starters figure it out. These are players who I’d expect to earn me a ton of points. They were the keys to my second-week failure.
Going forwards, I am facing Matt’s Team for week three. It will be a tough competition as he is 2-0 with a very strong pitching staff. Offensively, we are both pretty even, so it’ll be important to see how the pitching leads me in this hopeful week of fantasy.
