2023 Dodgers Day After: LA Drops The Series With a 3-2 Loss

A day after Los Angeles came back in dramatic walk-off fashion, the team faltered against the Chicago Cubs in Sunday’s rubber match. The LA bats weren’t present, tarnishing wasted efforts once again by the pitching staff.

There did, however, seem to be a sense of a comeback, especially when Mookie Betts hit a sun-aided double in the 7th inning, cutting the score to 3-2. It all went down the gutter in the 9th inning, though.

With counts in their favor, three Dodger hitters looked on in shock when home plate umpire Sean Barber made questionable calls. What would’ve been runners on base and a chance for a walk-off fell by the wayside.

In the end, the winning pitcher was Drew Smyly, whose record now is 1-1 with a 4.70 earned run average. On the losing end was Dodgers ace Julio Urias, who is now 3-1 with a 1.90 ERA. Urias pitched 5 and 2/3 innings striking out six and allowing two earned runs.

Offensively, Patrick Wisdom and Cody Bellinger both homered for the Cubbies while Chris Taylor hit a lone solo shot for the Dodgers.

Monday night, the 8-8 Dodgers face the 10-6 Mets at Dodger Stadium. Lefty David Peterson takes the ball for New York while righty Dustin May will be on the mound for LA. David Peterson is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA. May, meanwhile has been sharp with a 1.47 earned run average.

The Dodgers’ offense looks to rebound against Peterson, who has struggled in both of his starts so far. LA has struggled in the young season so far against lefties, however, slashing a meager .183/.331/.405. The team will probably continue with a righty-heavy lineup for tonight’s game.
