2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl: National Game Notes

The 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl is finally here. After two days of televised practices, one day of untelevised practices, and one day of removing the media from the building, we’re finally here. The National team led by the Jets staff and Robert Saleh won 20-10 over the American Team. You can check out the American notes here!

Luckily, NFL Network takes care of the game itself so we don’t have to worry about that disaster anymore. Let’s get right to it. Who stood out during the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl for the American team?

Day 2 National Practice Notes!

Day 3 National Practice Notes!

Quarterbacks:

I like Kenny Pickett. I think he’s just better than Malik Willis. Not as gifted but better. Looks comfortable in play action. Knows where to go with the ball. He’s never going to blow you away. Just is what it is. He’s the only guy out there making throws that will stick. Six for six for 89 yards and a score. Easy day.

Desmond Ridder stinks. He’s tough to watch. Didn’t even necessarily stink during the game but nothing he does will translate. If it’s not a boot to the right, nothing goes well. Guy only sees half the field. If it’s not there, it’s a scramble run. Good luck. Two touchdown passes. Both boots to the right. Who cares? Not me.

Carson Strong blows. It needs to be said and I’m so sad about it. His lower half is ass. No explosion. Ball dies in the air. It’s all arm. Nothing else. Osweiler. Couldn’t have looked worse. Oh, he threw this pick too. His stock has crashed. That’s how disappointed I am.

Running Backs:

Abram Smith is dog shit. I don’t care that he scored. It was a wide open check down route where all the attention went towards Christian Watson. He later dropped an easy check down thrown by Ridder. Guy has no burst. Speed is shit. Has zero shot. Smith put a stat line of

Now this Rachaad White I can be talked into. Hits the hole. One cut and go. Little juice to him too. Not a bad day. 11 for 48. I’ll take it.

Wide Receivers:

Bo Melton needs a slap. Dudes over here returning punts five yards into the end zone and takes it back to their own four yard line. WTF are you doing? The guy made out some yardage on wide receiver screens but who cares? Didn’t shine during the week. Doing stupid shit in the game. Pass.

How bout this Christian Watson. What I like is the fact that he commands attention. Should realistically get both scores because the defense followed him. Guy is a big target at 6-foot-4. Buried a corner at the line. Made him fall over and completed a big play. Good stuff.

Tight Ends:

Trey McBride had a touchdown. It wasn’t much. Wide open boot leg from Desmond Ridder because those are the only throws Ridder can actually make.

Jake Ferguson caught the other Ridder touchdown. I have no interest here so I won’t waste my time.

How bout this Cole Turner though? Just two catches for 44 yards but monster catch radius. Really helps extend the strike zone for quarterbacks. He’s not bad, huh?

Offensive Line:

I think we’re going to pass on this Cole Strange too. Neil Ferrell lined up in front of him. Guy panicked and had a bad low snap. Not much time later, has a high snap that sails over the quarterbacks head if it’s not taller Carson Strong. Just looks weak. Up and down during the week. Meh.

Fordham was shaky. Two false starts for Nick Zakelj. One is cool. Two can’t happen.

Not sure I saw a play from Trevor Penning that stood out. Again, he’s nasty but is he actually good? I really don’t think so.

Defensive Line:

Perrion Winfrey immediately started the game out with an offsides call. Not the best start but played well. Controlled in the run game. Got a sack in the third quarter. Another in the 4th. Looks like a stud. Guy is all over the place.

Give some love to this Boye Mafe too. Spencer Burford was great. Minnesota got him. That’s how good he was. Made some money today.

How bout this Haskell Garrett? Didn’t go super twitched out monster mode like Winfrey but did some good things. Not sure he’s a great pass rusher but can run and has power. Interesting.

Travis Jones had a mostly solid day. He’s just a big body. Not a ton of explosion but can eat in the run game. Over powered one of the centers pushing him right into Bailey Zappe for a sack.

Linebackers:

Jesse Luketa is just way better than his Penn State teammate. Can do multiple different things. Line him up wherever. Gets after the quarterback and quick. Hair on fire. Two sacks including this one.

What’s the 40 time going to be for this Chad Muma. When he runs it, wake me up. Not sure anything else matters. I see him making some plays but a bad 40 time could really change my opinion. I’m 36% in right now.

Defensive Backs:

We have to ding Coby Bryant. Looks capable but bro? Um. Can’t commit a pass interference with 4 seconds left in the quarter when the offense has not shot to score. Egregious. As bad as it gets. Can’t do it.

Not sure what to do with this Jalen Pitre. Made some hits and plays in the run game. Blew up a screen bad. Still just looks short. JT Woods, the other Baylor safety, made the game sealing pick and looked more functional in coverage. Questions to be answered.

*One last note. Andrew Mevis missed a college extra point. Sad.
