Welcome to the Vendetta 2020 NFL Wildcard Preview. We have a matchup between the Seattle Seahawks traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles. The funniest part is that the 11-5 Seahawks will travel to the 9-7 Eagles. Philly only has home field after winning the NFC Least. Let’s take a look at why each team can win the game and advance to the Divisional Round.
Point Spread: Seattle -1.5
Sunday, January 5th, 2020 – NBC
1: Russell Wilson
It just feels like Russell Wilson never losses. Even when he does lose, he makes you sweat it out. Game on the line, it feels like this guy always comes through. Wilson has carried this Seahawks team more than anybody realizes. Remember when people were freaking out when Seattle lost Will Dissly for the year? He was a defensive player at the University of Washington. Russell Wilson is that good.
Wilson would be my vote for MVP. Nobody has elevated players by himself quite like Wilson. His offensive line stinks and Tyler Lockett is playing out of his mind. That’s Russ for you. He won’t lose.
2: Pete Carroll
Sometimes playoff games come down to coaching. Pete Carroll feels like he has the edge here. Doug Pederson and Pete Carroll have squared off 3 times. Carroll is 3-0 and has held Pederson’s offense to an average of 11.33 points per game. Carroll seems to have his number. Pederson has basically been put to sleep when he faces Pete Carroll in the past. No reason that shouldn’t continue.
3: Seattle Is Better On The Road
Everybody thinks that Seattle is better at home. That they have one of the best home field advantages in the league. Well, what if I told you that what a myth. I don’t have to say much more than this below.
1: Hard To Beat A Team Twice
These two teams already played. At some point, Philadelphia is due to beat Seattle. This past matchup, the game was really close. Seattle beat Philly 17-9 and the game could have really gone either way. Play that game 100 times, I think Seattle wins 55 of them. The other 45 go to Philly. The Eagles have seen Seattle once. Now can they make the adjustments and win the second time?
2: Seattle Is Not A Good Football Team
The Seahawks are not a good football team. Yes, I said it twice. This is a Russell Wilson show. Not much more than that. The Seahawks are 11-5. That much is true. However, take a wild guess what their point differential is on the entire season? +7, no that’s not a joke. +7…. That’s not even a playoff team in most instances. By comparision, the Eagles are +38. Philadelphia has actually been the better team all year. I know, insane.
3: The Eagles Are Scrappy
There is almost a nobody believes in us vibe going on here. They scrapped and clawed their way to a division crown when everybody counted them out. This is a next man up story if the next man up was already dead. I will say the replacements are starting to get more comfortable. Boston Scott can absolutely play. Greg Ward might be a college quarterback, but he can catch. This Eagles team is a 6 win team but they keep winning. Carson Wentz is elite and can go toe to toe with anybody. I just hope he gets some reliable weapons this offseason.
I’m going with the mini upset here. The Eagles have the worse record but they’re the 4 seed here so I’m not sure it’s really an upset. I’m taking Philadelphia. Carson Wentz is elite. I think Seattle losing Chris Carson really hurts them. This is a running football team and if they can’t do that, I’m worried. I also think there’s a mental thing here. 11-5 Seattle goes on the road after coming up a yard short of winning the division. Philly on the other hard has been taking gut punches all year and have responded. Give me the Eagles.
