This is the last post in a series of eight 2020 NFL Draft posts that covered who teams should, could, and ultimately will end up drafting in the first round. We wrap up this series with the AFC South.
Houston Texans
Should. The Texans do not have a first-round pick in 2020 because Bill O’Brien is inept. They should take the first round of this draft to reconsider this man’s position with the organization. After thirty seconds of doing this, they should fire the guy.
Could. They could trade into the first round. However, any more O’Brien trades could leave the franchise irreparably devastated.
Will. They will do nothing, unless O’Brien has an epiphany and gives up Deshaun Watson for a late pick in this round and further buries the team.
Indianapolis Colts
Should. The Colts do not have a first-round pick. This was a result of trading for DeForest Buckner. Given that the team was originally slotted to pick 13th, this may not have been the best move. There is plenty of talent likely to be available at Buckner’s position by this pick. More importantly, that talent would cost only a fraction of what the Colts will be paying Buckner.
Could. The Colts could have taken Javon Kinlaw or Derrick Brown with this pick. In two to three years, they may be kicking themselves for not doing so.
Will. Buckner will need to make an immediate impact to justify this move.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Should. The Jaguars have the 9th and 20th picks in the first round. This team needs help all over the place. The mass exodus will likely continue as Leonard Fournette seems to be the next star wanting out. It is hard to miss on either of these picks where every aspect of the team needs improvement.
The 9th pick should be dedicated to a star receiver, like Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb. The 20th pick should be devoted to a CB who can replace Jalen Ramsey.
Could. The team could trade down from the 9th spot to acquire additional draft capital. This could be a smart move given how many holes exist on both sides of the ball. However, it would be smarter to secure a star with the 9th pick and trade down from the 20th spot.
Will. The Jaguars will likely retain both of their picks and select top players on the board at each spot.
Tennessee Titans
Should. The Titans have the 29th pick in the draft. Derrick Henry will not be a long-term solution given how hard he has been played over the past two seasons. A RB at this point in the draft sounds ideal for the team. D’Andre Swift could still be available.
Could. They could go defense, but that unit is already strong. Later round picks could help provide depth at every level.
Will. If Swift is available, there is no way the Titans pass.
