After months and months of waiting Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans have finally agreed to a contract. Marcus Mariota was the last first round rookie to sign his contract as there was a holdup due to offset language. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport has reported the two sides have agreed to partial offsets.
The Titans also announced the agreement:
“We are glad to have the deal with Marcus done, and I’d like to thank both Marcus and his representatives for their diligence in working with us to finalize this contract,” Titans Executive Vice President and General Manager Ruston Webster said in a statement.
“We were confident that Marcus would be under contract before training camp, and we look forward to him starting his career on time with his teammates when we open camp next week. This is an exciting time for the Tennessee Titans organization, and we look forward to a bright future.”
It was important to get Mariota’s deal done as soon as possible as missing any training camp time could have severely hurt his development. The Titans are hoping the former Oregon standout can make a swift transition to the NFL as former 2014 6th round pick Zach Mettenberger will be backing him up.
