2021 NFL Draft War Room: New York Giants

2020 NFL Draft

2020 NFL Draft
The Giants shocked the world when they selected Daniel Jones. What does New York plan on doing during the 2021 NFL Draft? (John Sommers II/UPI)

The 2021 NFL Draft is a turning point for the New York Giants franchise. The NFC East is down, Dave Gettleman is on the hot seat, and so might be Daniel Jones. The draft could leap frog the Giants as division champs. Let’s head inside the war room to see what New York is thinking when they’re on the clock.

  • Round 1 (No. 11)
  • Round 2 (No. 42)
  • Round 3 (No. 76)
  • Round 4 (No. 116)
  • Round 6 (No. 196)
  • Round 6 (No. 201)

The Giants are missing picks in the 5th and 7th rounds but they make up with it by having an extra 6th. In totality, a pretty straight down the board draft.

I wonder if the Giants are thinking about adding another weapon. Kyle Rudolph and Kenny Golladay were already added via free agency. Would the Giants pull the trigger on Jaylen Waddle if available? I think yes.

Look, you have to do everything to make sure whether Daniel Jones is the franchise guy. If the Giants draft Waddle and Jones comes up short, you have your answer. No, I don’t think Jones is the guy long term but Waddle goes a long way towards helping both causes. If yes, he’s a hell of a wide receiver. One stylistically, the Giants don’t have. No, John Ross doesn’t count.

The right side of the offensive line needs help. What’s the deal with some of these names? Zach Fulton? Nick Gates? C’mon. Jalen Mayfield at Michigan could go a long way towards helping that matter. Plug him in at right tackle and boom. There’s a body. Maybe the UConn kid Peart can develop. The Giants need offensive lineman anyway.

I would expect the Giants to target a defensive tackle at some point too. Losing Dalvin Tomlinson is a really underrated loss. Keep an eye on a name like Milton Williams at Louisiana Tech. Osa Odighizuwa is a familiar name too this franchise knows well.
