Just a few months ago, Zion Williamson busted through a Nike shoe while playing for Duke. It was shades of Bo Jackson. I didn’t think a human was capable of doing this.
Now Zion is sticking with Nike after signing with Jordan Brand. This doesn’t come as much of a shock to me. Nike had to close this deal to avoid further embarrassment. Get those costume Zion’s cooking. Nick DePaula of ESPN had the following:
“After months of deliberating a handful of offers, New Orleans Pelicans rookie and No. 1 overall NBA draft pick Zion Williamson has signed a multiyear shoe deal with Jordan Brand.
“I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the Jordan Brand family,” Williamson said. “Since I was a kid, I dreamed of making it to the league and having the type of impact on the game Michael Jordan had and continues to have today. He was one of those special athletes I looked up to, and I really can’t express how happy and excited I am for this journey.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though multiple competitor brands had offered the rookie sensation more than $10 million annually in their negotiations, according to industry sources.”
I’m not much of a sneaker head myself but I’m sure some people care about this. I think I buy a pair of shoes maybe once every two years. I’m just not that guy. I have friends that have 100’s. Never understood it but I’ve seen how people love them. All I know is that Jordan better customize those things. Can you imagine if he busts through another pair?
What’s the deal with Lonzo Ball now? Does he still rock the Triple B’s? I’ve seen him wear a ton of different brand shoes. Does Zion recruit him to join Jordan? Does that cause a rift with LaVar? Imagine if Zion signed with BBB. The world may have exploded.
