The Cincinnati Bengals are signing former Bills and Colts’ running back Zack Moss to a two-year deal worth $8 million, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
This move comes right before the Bengals released one-time Pro Bowler Joe Mixon, who has spent his entire career in Cincinnati. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was one of the first to announce his release.
Zack Moss Moss, 26, played in 14 games last season for Indianapolis rushing for 794 yards and five touchdowns on 183 attempts, the best season of his career so far. Moss’ rushing yards came while he was sharing snaps with Jonathan Taylor before Taylor suffered a thumb injury.
While Mixon, on the other hand, rushed for 1034 yards and 9 touchdowns on 257 attempts last season. These stats are Mixon’s 4th best season in his career yet.
According to Spotrac, Mixon’s release will save the Bengals around $6.1 million in cap room.
Zack Moss was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 3rd round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the 86th overall pick. In his first three season in the NFL, Moss ran for 917 yards and eight touchdowns.
Moss was then traded to the Indianapolis Colts mid-season, and for the past two season, Moss ran for 1159 yards and six touchdowns.
While Zack Moss isn’t putting up the same numbers as Joe Mixon, he will have the opportunity to show what he can do in Cincy, assuming that he will be RB1 heading into the season. Let’s see if the Bengals made the right decision in releasing Mixon.
The Bengals also seem to be close to losing wide receiver Tee Higgins, who has requested a trade from the team. Higgins also had the franchise tag placed on him, with receivers making $20.7 million with the tag.
