The Marlins and Yankees do business quite frequently. No, this one doesn’t have as many implications as the Giancarlo Stanton deal, but the Marlins are sending another bat to the Bronx. Jazz Chisholm has been acquired by the Yankees in exchange for three prospects.
Jeff Passan of ESPN was the first to report the news:
Side note: Credit to Bagdonas for seeing this coming. I guess he’s on the money *sometimes*. Although, it’s worth mentioning that it’s no surprise the Marlins cut ties here. It’s been well known this player has been very available. Especially given how bad Miami stinks right now.
Chisholm, 26, is slashing .249/.323/.407 with a .730 OPS to along with his 13 home runs, 22 steals, and 50 RBI. The Nassau, Bahamas native could play all over the diamond now that he’s in Pinstripes. He’s played second, short, and center with Miami. It remains to be seen how Aaron Boone plans to deploy him.
New York also gets 2.5 years of control here with the player. Good enough for three postseason races before they need to figure out an extension.
The tea leaves have finally started to trickle in with this deal. The headliner of the deal for Miami appears to be catcher Agustin Ramirez, a former international signee out of the Dominican Republic. He’s the 20th ranked guy in the system according to MLB.com and currently is playing at the AAA level. The other two names going to Miami appear to be lower-level throw-ins.
