We kicked off the season premiere of WWE Monday Night RAW with the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns. Reigns has not made an appearance on WWE Monday Night RAW in some time. The Tribal Chief was joined by the remaining members of The Bloodline. Roman began talking about how everyone needs to be carrying their weight and directed the comment toward Jey Uso. Before Roman could finish talking, Sami Zayn interrupted and said he can take care of it. It was at this time that Matt Riddle entered the arena. Riddle challenged Roman to a match, but Roman denied. Uso started hyping up the Honorary Uce so he would accept the challenge for a match on Roman’s behalf. Matt Riddle vs. Sami Zayn was then set for later Monday night.
This match has been weeks in the making. Ever since Johnny Gargano made his debut on WWE Monday Night RAW a few weeks ago, Austin Theory has been a thorn in his side. Both of these men are world class athletes in the ring. They put together a very solid showing for a weekly television match and it will be interesting to see if their storyline ends here. Johnny Gargano managed to hit the One Final beat to pick up the win after about 10 minutes.
Match Highlights:
This match saw the leader of the Alpha Academy take on the Master of the 619, Rey Mysterio. It has been nice to see Gable on TV consistently, but he could really use some sort of refresh. I find him incredibly entertaining, but I am assuming not all do. As Rey began to take control of the match, Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio made their way down the ramp. We return from break to Rhea and Dominik watching from ringside. Rey was able to use it as motivation to pick up the clean victory over Gable. After the match, The Judgement Day entered the ring. Dominik stood face to face with his father, once again begging Rey to hit him. Rey refused to hit is son again, but it looks like we could be getting it soon.
Match Highlights:
This was an interesting promo. All the members individually spoke. Finn Balor talked about the victory over Edge this past Saturday at WWE Extreme Rules for far too long. After that, he called out AJ Styles to enter the ring immediately. Styles began to tell Balor that he has been alone for far too long and they embraced in a hug. It seems as if Styles was actually going to join The Judgement Day until out of nowhere Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson made their return to WWE. The OC is reunited, and they immediately took out The Judgement Day.
Segment Highlights:
Before this match started, we got a quick backstage video package of Roman Reigns leaving the arena. Reigns told Jey to stay for Zayn’s match and make sure the Honorary Uce picks up a victory. Jey begrudgingly agreed.
Bayley looked visibly pissed off going into this match. The match saw Bayley control for most of it, but Candice LeRae was able to get in her fair share of offense. It seemed as if Bayley was going to pick up the victory until LeRae managed to score a roll up pin for the win. LeRae was attacked from behind by the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions as she was leaving up the ramp. Dakota Kai and IYO SKY brought her back to the ring. At this time the WWE RAW Women’s Champion, Bianca Belair, ran down to help LeRae. Despite their efforts, Damage CTRL stood tall because of the numbers advantage.
Match Highlights:
Maryse planned a celebration for the birthday of The Miz. Miz is reluctant to celebrate but Maryse gifts him a bat, which makes him more comfortable. The ring is full of gifts, a cake, and decorations. Eventually, Miz lifted a box on the table to reveal the head of Dexter Lumis under it. Lumis gets Miz into a chokehold, but he escapes, leaving his wife alone in the ring with Lumis. Lumis didn’t touch Maryse, and she ran away to the back.
After the segment, we got The Miz running into members of DX backstage. Road Dogg says next week on RAW Lumis should take on The Miz for a WWE contract. The Miz agrees. Dexter Lumis vs. The Miz is set for next week on RAW.
Segment Highlights:
This match went as it usually does. Omos dominated and then left. They have about one more week to do something with Omos before I am all out on him.
Match Highlights:
Before this match, they replayed Bray Wyatt’s return at WWE Extreme Rules. Let me just say, I was in attendance at the event, and it was electric. Easily the greatest wrestling moment I have been in attendance for. Welcome back, Bray Wyatt. We missed you.
Before this match started, Bobby Lashley began cutting a promo about being a fighting champion. He began to list some of his accolades and some of the names he has beaten. At that point, none other than the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar, made his return to WWE. Lesnar hardly said anything before hitting Lashley with 2 F5s and a German suplex. After that, he locks in the kimora lock, which completely weakened the arm of Lashley.
After commercial, we see WWE staff attending to Lashley as Seth Rollins makes his way to the ring. Rollins lures Lashley into competing through some choice words. It ended up being the wrong choice for Lashley, as Rollins took advantage of the earlier Lesnar attack to pick up the win. Seth “Freakin” Rollins is your new United States Champion.
Match Highlights:
This match was more storytelling than anything else. The story the whole time was Jey Uso trying to interfere to help Zayn, and Zayn telling him to stay away. It eventually costed Zayn as Riddle hit the RKO to pick up the victory.
Match Highlights:
This was hilarious. I don’t even know where to begin, so I am just going to make an extended highlight list for this segment.
