WWE’s Cathy Kelley does not intend to become a pro wrestler

Cathy Kelley has quickly become a fan-favorite broadcaster, but could the 34-year-old transition into a wrestler?

Kelley made her return to WWE in October 2022 after parting ways with the promotion in early 2020. Since then, she’s interviewed many of the top talent on the roster during backstage segments. However, could Cathy Kelley follow in the footsteps of Michael Cole and “Mean” Gene Okerlund and get involved with the action?

During her recent appearance on “Insight” with Chris Van Vliet, Cathy Kelley claimed she has no intentions to do so. According to the 34-year-old, she once took a few bumps for Championship Wrestling From Hollywood.

“I think I took one or two bumps until I finally knocked the wind out of myself,” Kelley said. “Even running the ropes, people don’t realize if you haven’t done it, it’s intense; you end up building up calluses on your back. I was bruised for probably a week. I always liked acting, I knew I hated sports.”

It remains to be seen if Kelley will stay happy behind the mic, as the world of professional wrestling is often unpredictable. But, given her own opinion on the matter, even if she does get involved in a storyline, she likely won’t be a WWE Superstar anytime soon.

Cathy Kelley also revealed exactly why she left WWE in 2020

Before her departure from the promotion in 2020, Kelley was a broadcaster for WWE NXT, but it seemed like she had higher aspirations. During the same interview with Chris Van Vliet, Kelley disclosed that the promotion didn’t plan to have her do broadcasting work on RAW or SmackDown.

“It was really tough,” she said. “I struggled with it for probably about a year, and it was partially promises that were made when I started and trajectory of where I wanted to see my career go and it didn’t feel like that opportunity was going to come to fruition, which was being on one of the main shows, being on either RAW or SmackDown as a backstage interviewer. While I was doing that at NXT, they said that I wasn’t ever probably going to be on a main show, and that was my catalyst.”

Luckily for Cathy Kelley, it seems like WWE eventually changed their mind about her. Today, she’s a prominent figure on television for the promotion, and could likely easily take up a transition into wrestling. Fans will simply have to stay tuned to see what her next move will be.

Either way, the 34-year-old already has quite the fan following online.
