It’s starting to get ugly for JT Miller in Vancouver. It’s going to be a long seven years if the Canucks can’t find a trade partner. Miller has totally packed it in and there’s no way out. It’s going to be difficult for the Canucks to find a trade partner. However, if we’re looking for ways to find Miller a new home, the Rangers make the most sense.
Would the Rangers entertain a JT Miller reunion? I’m not sure they need a center but they sure as hell need to do something. New York finds itself in a dog fight in the Metro and need a spark to ensure another playoff appearance this year. There is no doubt that the Rangers are going to be buyers.
They also have a potential trade that nobody seems to be talking about. Is Alexis Lafrenière a bust? It sure as hell is starting to trend that way. The former number one overall pick has been made a healthy scratch and even got demoted to the 4th line at times. After the season is over, New York will be tasked with extending Lafrenière. Good luck.
Could a Miller and Lafrenière swap be on the table? I don’t see how you can rule it out. Miller had a lot of success with the Rangers and I’m sure they would welcome him back under the right circumstances. Yes, Miller has a bit of an inflated contract, but it’s not one that can’t be worked around. Could the Rangers include Kevin Shattenkirk’s dead contract along with Barclay Goodrow to get a Miller trade down? New York has plenty of cap space next year.
Miller has been a liability in Vancouver on the defensive end. However, being sent to the Rangers would likely re-energize Miller. Add in the fact that Miller wouldn’t have to play any center with New York. Mika Zibanejad and Vincent Trocheck have that job taken care of. Miller could do what he does best. Slide out to winger and create offense.
Oh, and Vancouver has already come out and declared that they would be very interested in Lafrenière adding more fuel to the fire. If the Rangers want to cash in, they have a willing trade partner with the Canucks.
Yes, it’s a huge cap hit but Miller can really help this Rangers team. He’s done it in the past and should still have plenty of tread on the tires at age 29. Half the problem might be the losing culture in Vancouver. Call me crazy but this trade makes too much sense not to happen. Figure out the financial part of it and make this thing happen.
