The NHL offseason is almost here, and that means the trade rumors are running wild. It’s a reminder to be careful who you trust this time of year. One lie has been spotted already. The William Karlsson trade rumors are totally fabricated, and there’s basically a zero percent chance Vegas trades him.
Karlsson, 32, has been a mainstay in the Golden Knights’ lineup since day one. He’s one of the few original misfits remaining on the roster. He also exemplifies the VGK identity. Vegas arguably has the best group of centers in the league, and Karlsson being that wet-blanket third-line option is very much part of the reason why.
Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Vegas isn’t looking to move Karlsson. Not that it should even be said, but apparently it had to be said, given all the false rumors circulating.
Some jerkoff from The Athletic thought he was smart and reported that Vegas could dump Karlsson in an attempt to bring in Mitch Marner. All of which stems from a proposed trade where Toronto thought they were getting Mikko Rantanen at the deadline.
All of which is nonsense. It reeks of the Toronto media throwing irresponsible rumors into the sun. Just because they’re butt-hurt that they’re going Marner for nothing, doesn’t mean they’re just going to replace him with a player like Karlsson built on magical lies?
Karlsson isn’t going anywhere. And if we’re being real, Vegas can sign Marner without trading anyone off the roster…
Side note: This isn’t the first time The Athletic lied about a player on the Golden Knights…
