Will Josh Heupel Make The Jump To The NFL?

Tennessee is on top of the college football world. They’re currently ranked number two but they feel on top. With an upcoming matchup against top-ranked Georgia next up, it’s really starting to feel like 98 if the Vols can win that one. A tough task, of course, but this Josh Heupel offense has proven virtually unstoppable.

Thus far, the Vols are 8-0 and have outscored their opponents by 227 points on the season. Pretty, pretty good. As mentioned previously, Josh Heupel is going to be the talk of the town. He’s turned this Tennessee program around quick and probably should be credited for UCF’s rise. It’s only a matter of time before NFL teams start calling?

Well, Tony Romo hinted that could be the case during the recent Eagles, Steelers broadcast.

Every team should be calling this guy. Will it happen? It’s hard to totally ignore the possibility. Hendon Hooker is going to leave for the NFL Draft this year. Winning in the SEC is just totally brutal. You can have a damn good team and lose four games every year. It’s just the way it is. If the right opportunity presents itself with an NFL job, yeah, Heupel has every right to make that a consideration.

For NFL teams, Heupel is absolutely a guy you want to interview. He’s a brilliant offensive mind and the things he’s done to prop up Hooker are remarkable. His three-level read offense has been a smashing success. Don’t see why he can’t translate to the NFL.

It’s going to be a storyline to watch for the remainder of the season. If I’m running a team, I’m giving this guy a call, absolutely. Will Josh Heupel actually make the leap to the NFL? It’s something we should start thinking about more seriously than before the season. That’s for sure.
