We all saw what happened in the Super Bowl. The biggest flaws in Kansas City finally came to life. The offensive line simply isn’t good enough and it was the Tampa Bay Super Bowl all over again. Philadelphia won the war in the trenches and subsequently the game too. The problem is the Chiefs’ offensive line could get even worse with Trey Smith heading into free agency.
Smith, 25, is going to be one of the most coveted players on the market. Are the Chiefs going to be able to retain the former Tennessee product? All indications right no point to the answer to that question being no.
VIA Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post (Do not click the link. I’m required to list the source but it’s behind a paywall so I’ll get you the information you need).
“The Chiefs’ brass expects to lose guard Trey Smith to the open market, from everything I gather — multiple executives pointed to Tennessee as a potential landing spot”.
KC has about $15 million in cap space entering the offseason. Smith’s new deal is going to eat all of that and more. The Bears feel like possible players here along with the previously mentioned Titans. The real mistake by this front office was giving Jawaan Taylor that ridiculous deal. They probably will lose Smith because of it.
By the way, I loved Trey Smith coming out of college. This is your proof. It’s a travesty that he was picked so late in the draft. He should have gone four rounds higher. If I was a GM in the league, I promise you he would have been on team Vendetta.
