The NFL will have its first-ever Black Friday game in 2023, the league announced on Tuesday. The game will be exclusively streamed on Amazon Prime Video, the NFL’s newest Thursday Night streaming partner. The game is tentatively set to begin at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023. Amazon has seemingly struck gold again by buying out the rights to this game.
The NFL announced that they will hold a Black Friday game to give their fans more NFL action during the holiday. Everyone is familiar with NFL games taking place on Thanksgiving. For the first time, fans get to experience a game the day after on Black Friday. The teams for the game have yet to be announced and will be revealed when the NFL releases next year’s schedule.
Amazon Prime Video will be the exclusive streaming service for the game. They recently came to an agreement on a package with the NFL to hold the exclusive streaming rights to Thursday Night Football, which Amazon is currently paying $1 billion per season for. They will be adding an aditional $50 to $70 million to stream each Black Friday game.
The new Black Friday edition of the NFL is not only exciting for fans, but for Amazon as well. As if having the exclusive streaming rights to Thursday Night Football did not bring them enough revenue and publicity already, this will only add to it. With Black Friday being one of the most important days of the year for retailers, Amazon will only benefit from streaming this game. Streaming the Black Friday game is not only good for Amazon’s relationship with the NFL, but is also a brilliant marketing technique.
With more people being driven away from in-person shopping, Amazon continues to capitlize on their opportunities to draw more people to the online retailer. With this being the first Black Friday game the NFL has had, it will surely draw a large viewership. That large viewership gives Amazon the opportunity to advertise their holiday deals.
With this newest development, Amazon continues to build its relationship with the NFL. Not only that, but Amazon also continues to assert its dominance over quite literally every aspect of the world. Amazon’s partnership with the NFL has been a successful one thus far for both parties. Ratings for Thursday Night Football are up nearly 50 percent from last season. That is a shocking statistic when you take into account the lack luster set of games fans have been given thus far.
The NFL’s Black Friday game is sure to bring a lot of excitement for fans. It is also sure to bring a lot of customers to Amazon. It will be interesting to see how this pans out for both organizations. This first Black Friday game is just another success waiting to happen for the Amazon.
