The Celtics made a mega trade to bring in Jrue Holiday during the closing days of the NBA offseason. There are so many retired numbers by the Celtics (I have a separate blog about why the team really needs to consider unretiring some numbers because it’s getting out of hand). There just aren’t a ton of numbers to choose from.
However, Holiday has settled on the number four. That’s what he will rock during his time in Boston. What made Holiday go with the number 4? The former UCLA product had a pretty interesting reason why he went with that number.
As reported by Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, Holiday explained that he went with the number 4 because he has three other siblings. The number 4 represents the number of siblings in the Holiday family. He also apparently called Isaiah Thomas to get approval.
That’s really the part I want to talk about. I understand that Holiday is a nice guy. He’s a great guy off the court and is truly a model citizen. I get all of that but also lowkey screw IT. Thomas was nothing but a bum during his time with the Celtics and Holiday would have eaten him for breakfast. I don’t care what anybody says, Thomas was a bum and sucked with the Celtics.
He was a constant negative on the court for being a midget and was the single worst defender in the league when he played. It was whoever offense any time he was on the court and totally killed the Celtics.
If that were me, I would have called Thomas and mocked him the whole time. That’s just me. There was never a reason to even ask for that loser’s approval.
