Which NFL Stars Could Get Traded After Julio Jones?

Trade season is around the corner in the NFL, and after he unwittingly told the world that he wanted out of Atlanta, Julio Jones will likely have a new home this offseason. However, Jones may not be the only big name on the move this summer. Here are 3 NFL stars that could end up getting traded after Jones.

Zach Ertz

With the Philadelphia Eagles heading into a rebuild, it is more than likely that Zach Ertz finds a new team in the 2021 offseason. There will be no shortage of interested parties in the mix for the 3-time Pro Bowl Tight End, even if he turns 31 this November. One of the most realistic fits is the Buffalo Bills, especially after restructuring Stefon Diggs’ contract to free up some cap space. In 2020, the Bills put everyone on notice, as Josh Allen had a breakout year and Diggs excelled in his first season with the team. Adding another dangerous weapon like Ertz to their offense will make Buffalo the biggest threat to Kansas City’s reign in the AFC and presumably, the team would not mind moving some mid-round picks in order to pick up the former Super Bowl champion.

Stephon Gilmore

Heading into the final year of a 5-year, $65 million contract, the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year could be on his way out of New England. Gilmore remains a shutdown corner and still has some quality years left in the NFL after just turning 30 years old. Given the Patriots’ recent spending spree during 2021 Free Agency, it remains to be seen if they are willing to commit another large contract to Gilmore. There were also rumblings of the Patriots considering parting ways with Gilmore in order to land a top-10 pick in this years’ draft, but Bill Belichick decided not to pull the trigger. Teams like the Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, and Arizona Cardinals all stand out as possible destinations for the multiple-time All-Pro Cornerback, but New England will likely ask for heavy compensation which could make teams wait a year to try and impress him in free agency.

Aaron Rodgers

This is a trade saga that appears to have no end in sight (unless a trade happens of course). As adamant as the Green Bay Packers would like to be about holding on to the reigning MVP, the relationship appears to be fractured beyond repair. Falling to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2021 NFC Championship Game at Lambeau appeared to be the final straw for Rodgers. Despite the team’s best efforts, including a willingness to restructure Rodgers’ contract, the future Hall-of-Famer still has his heart set on a move out of Green Bay. The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers were both interested at around the time of the draft but were quickly rebuffed and subsequently found new quarterbacks elsewhere. While Green Bay will continue to pull all of the stops to convince their Rodgers to stay, a Rodgers trade still feels inevitable.
