There’s one trend happening right now and it’s one I can’t wrap my head around. Often times, I truly don’t understand where some narratives come from. Joe Mixon is one of them. Where the hell is the hype coming from. What in the world has Mixon done to deserve the high rankings he’s getting in fantasy? It truly doesn’t make any sense.
Yes, the Bengals offensive line isn’t the greatest. Last year they ranked towards the bottom of the list. However, that’s not an excuse when it comes to fantasy. You’re drafting those circumstances when you draft Mixon. Last season in what experts apparently saw as a “good” season, Mixon averaged 4.1 yards per carry which is far from special. He’s averaging 4.2 yards per carry for his career.
Last season, 37 running backs had a higher YPC mark. Ask a friend what they think of Ronald Jones? He was better than Mixon in terms of efficiency last year. Old washed up Adrian Peterson was better. Carlos Hyde couldn’t find a job and he was better. Marlon Mack and Damien Williams were replaced and they were better. Something called Brian Hill had the same YPC mark.
This is who you defend? I don’t even think Mixon is a good running back. This is messed up but I think it’s true. He gets more attention because of his prior domestic violence incident. His performance doesn’t match. I see him ranked top 5 all the time. My question is how or why? Not to mention, Cincinnati is a bad football team. The game script will never be in his favor. Trailing by 20 and looking to throw. You want to sign up for that nightmare?
What are we doing here? Joe Mixon is fine but this is not a top tier running back. He finished as the RB 11 last year and played in all 16 games while being the primary runner. I’m not drafting that top 5 or whatever. Nor does being in Cincinnati help his cause. Don’t be dumb. With the way Joe Mixon is ranked, watch someone else draft him and laugh.
