The NFL started a beautiful trend. NFL RedZone is flat-out awesome.
It started in 2009, but really the last few years it has picked up its popularity for the right reasons. When your team is playing, you’re probably not watching RedZone. But it’s just easier to keep up with games when a team is about to score or they show highlights from other games than you physically flipping through games to find all that. No one is trying to do that on Sunday, we degenerates want to watch football and let everything be done for us.
It is also key for fantasy football, it helps fantasy players keep track of their team. So smart. Can the NBA do something that smart?
It was so smart that the NHL decided to do something similar. NHL hardly ever markets their product, if you love hockey, you’re watching it, but they don’t get a lot of new fans.
I’m playing fantasy hockey to try to get into it more but it’s hard. The NHL just announced they are starting “Frozen Frenzy” which is their own version of the NFL RedZone for hockey. Brilliant idea. They get to advertise hockey, and fans are able to keep up with many games going on at the same time.
When is the NBA going to do something like this? I have really pitched this idea to people I know for a while now. I even have a name “In The Paint.” Cause I go hard in the MF PAINT on some real Wacka Flocka Flame type shit. My bad, let me bring this down a notch.
But, seriously, why doesn’t the NBA do this? There have been grumblings about the NBA schedule and whatever. Make an even amount of games and have your own version of NFL RedZone throughout the week. The NBA might see how the NHL does it and make some choice on how to improve from there, which is smart.
Adam Silver has been innovative with the NBA, like implementing an in-season tournament. I am sure that an NBA RedZone is on his list. Please, for the love of God, we need this badly. The same reason why the NFL and the NHL did it, the NBA needs it too.
