What Will Jimbo Fisher Do With His Record Buyout Money?

Serious question. What’s Jimbo Fisher going to do with his record buyout money from Texas A&M? Why would you ever return to coaching? (Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports)

What Will Jimbo Fisher Do With His Record Buyout Money?

Jimbo Fisher might be the luckiest man in America. After Texas A&M fired him, the Aggies still owe Fisher $76 million in buyout money. I think we’re all asking the wrong question with this situation. I want to know what the hell Jimbo is going to do with the rest of his life now that he has that buyout money.

I want you to think about this. Fisher will still be paid through 2031. He never has to work another day in his life. Actually, it’s more damaging if he takes another job. If Fisher takes another head coaching job, the buyout money that Texas A&M owes him would be offset by his new job. It’s exactly what happened with Matt Rhule and the Panthers. Carolina would owe Rhule so much money, except they don’t because what Nebraska is paying him offsets their buyout.

What I’m telling you is that Fisher is going to be paid the same thing whether he’s working or not. It’s why Kliff Kingsbury bought a one-way ticket to Thailand to get blowys on the beach. You still technically need to prove that you’re trying to get a job, but there are ways to avoid that. All you have to do is interview for consulting jobs and tank. Jimbo can happily keep his money and never work again.

If you’re Jimbo, why would you try to coach again? There is no point. He’s already got his National Title after winning with Florida State back in 2014. He will be remembered for that. He’s also been left in the dust in terms of schematics of modern football. His offense has not evolved since 2014 and it’s why his teams at Texas A&M have underachieved despite having really good recruiting classes.

The answer turned out to be no.

What’s Jimbo going to do? He’s an idiot if he gets back into coaching. That’s all I’m saying. He’s going to lose like he did at Texas A&M at his next stop. The guy could just sit on his money and never work again. He could start his own business doing anything. Why take another job? Enjoy the retirement, Jimbo. You earned it by being mediocre. Just don’t be an idiot and return to coaching because nobody will care and it’s only going to end badly.
