What is the “Pitch Black” Match Involving Bray Wyatt at WWE Royal Rumble?

WWE is known for creating some of the most iconic matches in wrestling history. They are true pioneers of the business, always looking for new and creative ideas. But sometimes, the matches aren’t always great. Nevertheless, WWE will continue to develop new ideas for match stipulations, and it looks like we are getting their newest match type at WWE Royal Rumble.

Bray Wyatt made his highly anticipated return to WWE a couple of months ago. Since then, he has found himself in a feud with LA Knight. Knight was the recipient of attacks backstage, but no one knew who did it. Well, Knight believed it was Wyatt and since then, these two men have been butting heads.

On the Dec. 30, 2022, episode of Smackdown, LA Knight finally challenged Bray Wyatt to a match at the WWE Royal Rumble. Bray accepted and the match was made official, although it was made into a Pitch Black Match.

What is a Pitch Black Match?

A Pitch Black Match has never been done in WWE before, so there is some speculation on what to expect. If I had to take a guess, it would be exactly how it sounds: Wyatt and Knight fighting in the dark.

Now, I have some concerns about the idea, the first being how are fans supposed to see it? I don’t think it will be complete darkness, but it has to be dark enough to call it a Pitch Black Match. My other concern is that the match is presented by Mountain Dew, which is advertising their Pitch Black flavor drink. I’m concerned this is just going to be a silly gimmick to promote another company’s product.

Still, have a sliver of hope that Triple H and Bray Wyatt have put together a cool idea for the match.
