What Pat McAfee is doing is incredible. Not only is his following massive, but it’s also so big that even big networks should be trembling. The former punter is showcasing just how powerful the internet is.
Pat McAfee has had a wild career after playing in the NFL. People called him crazy, and people said he was insane for leaving the NFL for the internet, well those people are wrong. Pat is simply living his best life, and it’s a life many people want to live themselves. Pat has seemingly taken over the internet, his presence is too large to ignore and the fact that he’s doing all of this on YouTube (mainly) is remarkable.
Pat McAfee and Fanduel inked a deal where The Pat McAfee Show would earn $30 million per year for four years. For a radio/YouTube show, without the backing of a major network, that’s ridiculous. It’s amazing, it’s incredible, and it displays the power of the internet firsthand. This is one of those situations where the internet gives a middle finger to conventional wisdom and does its own thing.
Large networks were well aware of what was going down at a studio in Indianapolis. Months ago, ESPN essentially blocked (the exact wording was “mandate,” per Richard Deitsch) their employees from going on the Pat McAfee Show. ESPN then backed down from that mandate, and employees were free to come on the show as they pleased. Although not much came from this, just think about that. A retired punter caused ESPN to flinch. If that doesn’t show how impressive Pat is at his job, I don’t know what will.
This man made ESPN flinch, HE SCARED THEM. How can anyone look at that occurrence and shrug at it, that’s a massive deal. Pat is making good money from Fanduel, he’s up there with the best in the business. Aaron Rodgers regularly goes on his show on Tuesdays. It’s Pat’s world and we’re just living in it.
