With the college football season officially wrapped up, we now enter draft season. This is the time for players to make a name for themselves and try and raise their stock ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft in late April. After the senior bowl will come the NFL Combine, followed by school pro days. But for today we have one focus: What is the Reese’s Senior Bowl?
Every year, during the last week of January and more recently the first week of February, the Reese’s Senior Bowl takes place. The event is a three-day combine of sorts where seniors who are invited converge on Mobile, Alabama, for practices, meetings with NFL teams, and at the end of the week, a game played at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama.
This is a great place for seniors to get a head start showcasing their skills for scouts and NFL teams. It’s not only a great venue for putting their skills on display, but teams will have interviews with the players, giving them a first chance to make a good impression. The coaches for the Reese’s Senior Bowl come from the NFL level every year. The coaching staffs for the Senior Bowl are nominated, giving some coordinators their first taste of head coaching experience. Some of the bigger names to ever coach in this event are Don Shula, Bill Walsh, Chuck Noll, Jim Mora, Bill Belichick and Mike Ditka. In recent years, coaches like Kyle Shanahan, Zac Taylor, Robert Saleh, Dan Campbell and Brian Flores have led the event.
Leading the American team this year is Luke Getsy of the Chicago Bears, while Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham coaches the National team.
The Reese’s Senior Bowl is the ultimate showcase for seniors all across the country. Invitees come from smaller conferences, Power Five schools, and everywhere in between. From USC to Jackson State, talent journey to the event from everywhere.
The Reese’s Senior Bowl has a rich history dating back to 1950 and is the first stop on a long road to the NFL Draft. As the saying goes: The Draft starts in Mobile.
