West Virginia RB CJ Donaldson Transfers To Ohio State
Ohio State is very much alive in the College Football playoff but that doesn’t mean they aren’t out there shopping in the transfer portal. For the 2025 season, they have already found a very important piece to the equation. The Buckeyes have successfully snagged West Virginia running back CJ Donaldson.
Matt Zenitz over at 247 Sports was the first to report the news:
James Peoples and Sam Williams-Dixon are the notable incumbents Donaldson will have to compete with for playing time. Those two guys are no slouches. Both highly recruited players. Just also both freshman so we’re not totally sure what they will bring to the table yet.
Donaldson, 20, has 421 carries for 2,058 yards, and 30 rushing touchdowns over the last three years with the Mountaineers. Add in 32 catches for 190 yards and one touchdown as a pass catcher and that pretty much sums up his production to this point.
While Donaldson isn’t as nearly hyped as some of the previous Ohio State backs, he definitely has a shot when it comes to the NFL Draft. I mentioned him this season in the stock notes and had him ranked in my running back rankings even going back to last year. He’s a compact back who can run downhill and make shifty cuts. Has more talent than previous WVU backs like Wendall Smallwood.
The now former West Virginia back has big shoes to fill at Ohio State. Both Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson are expected to join the NFL ranks after the College Football Playoff ends. Donaldson doesn’t have nearly the past production those two guys have and replacing them will not be easy.
