It’s a sad day for San Antonio Spurs fans. Davis Bertans was a personal fan favorite from this fanbase, and now it seems he is going to stay with the Wizards. If you remember, the Spurs traded Davis Bertans to the Wizards for cap space to sign Marcus Morris. Of course, Marcus Morris screwed the Spurs over (yes I am still salty about it), and we lost Davis Bertans in the process. Washington Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard on Davis Bertans on the “Off The Bench” podcast:
“We have every intention of retaining him. He’s the exact kind of player that we want to have in our organization. I think he wants to be here. Business will take care of itself. But in terms of, there’s so much chit-chat in this league that gets out there. And most of it is contrived by the teams that would love to have Davis. Well, guess what? One of the teams that would have to have him, has him. And we intend to keep him. So, we’re excited about his growth.”
Davis Bertans Stats
Davis Bertans has certainly improved on the stat sheet for the Wizards. He has 15.4 PPG on 46.6% shooting and 45.6% 3pt shooting. He also averages 4.6 RPG. He is mostly seen as a shooter, averaging almost four 3s a game. That is most of his points. As mentioned, he has a significant increase in his stats than his time with San Antonio. Last year he only had 8 PPG on 45% shooting and 43% 3P shooting. He only had 3.5 RPG last year as well.
He really is only a shooter as he was a defensive liability last year with the Spurs and that hasn’t changed this year. But man, he is a stupendous shooter and is underrated in that aspect in the eyes of the list. In a league that having a sharpshooter is almost a necessity for most teams, the Wizards have found theirs and do not intend on losing him. Bradley Beal needs all the help he can get. We in San Antonio miss you Davis Bertans, we are rooting for you. *Sniffs*
