After a short trip to New York, Vladimir Tarasenko has signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Ottawa Senators, the team announced Thursday.
Last season, the New York Rangers acquired the 31-year-old winger in a blockbuster trade. Tarasenko still has a lot left in the tank for the Senators, as the Russian winger had a bounce back year with 29 points. In only 69 games played last season, Tarasenko scored 18 goals and 32 assists for both the Blues and Rangers.
Now, Ottawa, who desperately needed a wing to help to bolster their roster, adds Tarasenko to the mix. Senators general manager Pierre Dorion made comments on the newly acquired Russian winger.
“Vladimir’s a natural goal scorer,” said Dorion via release. “He’s a dynamic player who can score from anywhere in the offensive zone, as well as an underrated playmaker who’s made a career out of driving offence for he and his linemates. An established performer in the regular season and in the playoffs, we’re thrilled to add a player of his calibre to our lineup.”
Over the course of his career, Tarasenko has been a perennial goal scorer for all his teams. Back in the 2021-22 season, Tarasenko became at the peak of his powers, scoring 34 goals and 48 assists for 82 total points. Although that season was his best in total points, back in 2015, the former first-round pick tallied 40 goals.
Tarasenko joins a Senators team in a peculiar position. They barely missed out on this year’s playoffs only by six points behind the Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers. Adding Tarasenko adds star-level talent to the Senators’ roster, but can it be enough to make a run for the Stanley Cup? Let us know in the comments down below.
