Vendetta Fantasy Baseball Trade Alert

The first trade has gone down in the Vendetta Fantasy Baseball league. It was a three-team deal involving myself, Milo Coulter and Trey Daubert. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the trade and see who ended up with what.

The Trade

Milo: Carlos Correa, Garrett Whitlock

Jack: Lucas Giolito, Giancarlo Stanton

Trey: Noah Syndergaard, Michael Harris

Milo

In all, Milo ended up sending Michael Harris and Noah Syndergaard to Trey in exchange for Lucas Giolito and Giancarlo Stanton who he then sent to me in exchange for Carlos Correa and Garrett Whitlock. So, basically, he gave up Harris and Syndergaard for Correa and Whitlock.

On the surface, this looks like a great trade for Milo. He’s bringing in one of the premier shortstops in the league, which gives him some much-needed firepower in his lineup. The only issue right now is that Correa can’t seem to hit water if he fell out of a boat. His slash line sits at .182/.250/.242. Now, it’s still early in the season and he has plenty of time to turn it around, but his play right now gives some reason to be nervous.

The addition of Whitlock should also serve as a nice depth piece for an already impressive rotation that Milo boasts. Whitlock can get him points as either a reliever or a starter and be a very versatile piece for Milo.

But don’t take my word for it. Let’s hear what Milo has to say about the trade.

“This trade benefits me in more ways than one. I was able to let go of Syndergaard, who struggled immensely last game. Edman to me is a worse version of Brendan Donovan. Correa is consistent at the plate and is arguably one of the best offensive shortstops in the league- definitely an upgrade over Edman. Being able to snag Whitlock too was even more of a plus. He’ll get a lot of playing time as both a starter and a reliever. His SIERA/k% from last season are beautiful as well.” (Also an upgrade over Syndergaard)

Trey

While I don’t hate this trade for Trey, I also don’t love it either. As previously mentioned, he sent Giancarlo Stanton and Lucas Giolito for Michael Harris and Noah Syndergaard. I think Stanton and Harris are pretty close in terms of where they will finish by the end of the fantasy season, but I’m just not very high on Syndergaard and don’t love the swap of him for Giolito.

I know Giolito is coming off a bad start — and a bad season at that — but I think he’s due for a bounce-back and will end up outperforming Thor. Still, this trade makes a bit more sense when Trey gives his reasoning.

“Really wanted someone from the Braves. Think they’re the NL representative in the WS. Really wanted Michael Harris in the draft but Milo snagged him. Good time to buy before the price gets too high while he’s on the IL. Someone that should steal bases, too — something my team doesn’t have much of. I’m fine swapping Syndergaard for Giolito. Believe Thor will have a good year on a strong Dodgers team.”

Jack

It’s time to look at my side of this deal. In all, I gave up Carlos Correa and Garrett Whitlock for Lucas Giolito and Giancarlo Stanton.

You may be wondering why I wanted to trade away Carlos Correa. It’s a good question but one I think I can answer. Right now I have two top-10 fantasy shortstops in Jonathan India and Willy Adames. India is looking like he’s found his rookie form again and Adames will be a consistent bat in my lineup. With the young Ezequiel Tovar bench, I just didn’t see a need for that many shortstops.

One of my biggest weaknesses was my pitching staff and lineup depth, both things I feel I addressed. Although he is coming off a bad start, I think he can be a very solid piece in my rotation over the course of the season. I needed more starting pitching depth and did just that with this trade.

Although I boasted an already loaded outfield with Mike Trout, Ronald Acuna and Luis Robert Jr., Stanton can still serve in the utility spot and provide me with some more offensive firepower. Stanton could also step in if any of the three mentioned get hurt which seems likely given their history. So, overall, I really like where I ended up.

Closing Thoughts

Ultimately, I think this is a pretty even trade all around. Everyone filled a hole in their roster; I feel all our teams are better as a result. On paper, it may seem like Milo won this trade as he definitely is netting the best overall and most know player. But will it be enough for his team, or will the additions Trey and Jack make be enough to even out the trade?

In the spirit of controversy, I will give a grade for each person regarding the trade and how much I feel it benefits their team.

Milo: B+. Bringing in a top-three shortstop in the league and a great addition to the rotation/bullpen.

Trey: C+. Harris will likely overall be a better piece for Trey’s team than Stanton, but don’t love the swap of Thor for Giolito.

Jack: B-. Could have maybe addressed the need for pitching a little better, but Giolito should be a nice piece. Stanton provides some offensive depth to the outfield.

There we have it: the first trade of the Vendetta Fantasy Baseball season completed and broke down. I’m sure everyone will think their grade should be higher, but hey, maybe that means they are good. Let me know who you think won this trade and what you think about each person’s thought process.
