Ryan Poles is the worst general manager in the NFL. Somehow, there is a hoard of uneducated fans who continue to defend this clown. Poles has a laundry list of errors that just can’t be ignored. One of those that has flown under the radar is the Velus Jones pick.
The craziest part about this is everybody with a brain knew this pick stunk the second the card got turned in. I gave the Bears an F for their draft that year and the Velus pick had a lot to do with it. The Old Man even had a post about how Jones sucked.
There was almost no way to screw this pick up unless you don’t watch college football. Jones was in college for six seasons starting at USC and ending at Tennessee. Jones had 807 yards in his final season with the Vols. However, his prior career high was the season prior with 280 receiving yards.
Jones was mostly used as a special teams return man. It was almost like the Bears were trying to recreate Devin Hester in the dumbest way possible. Jones was never going to be the return man that Hester was and he wasn’t nearly good enough as a receiver to warrant a pick that high.
There was quite literally nothing impressive about Jones coming out during the draft process. It was as dumb of a pick as it gets.
To the surprise of no one, Ryan Poles couldn’t figure that out. And you want to crown this man? Give me a break. Nobody has sucked more at their job but has somehow gotten praised the entire time. It’s truly incredible.
