The first Pay Per View card of the year is already having some issues before fight night. The challenger of the UFC 311 main event Arman Tsarukyan has pulled out of the fight. Tsarukyan is out of the fight due to injury a day before fight night so the UFC has to scramble quickly to find a new headliner. The UFC chose number 10 lightweight Renato Moicano to step into the title fight on short notice. The new UFC 311 main event will now be a clash between Islam Makhachev vs Renato Moicano
This situation is unfortunate as it is always horrible to lose a title fight before the night of the fight. Furthermore, it is awful to lose a champion vs number one contender fight. Makhachev vs Tsarukyan was one of the best fights to make in the UFC. However, it is nice that the UFC was able to quickly pivot and keep the card alive.
Renato Moicano is on a four-fight win streak and has looked good in his last couple of fights. His new “Money Moicano” personality has been gaining him a lot more new fans. He was scheduled to fight Beneil Dariush on the main card so it will be interesting to see if there is a late replacement fight or if Dariush’s fight is scrapped.
Ultimately, the UFC 311 card is still strong from top to bottom. However, losing a fantastic main-event fight will always be a tough blow to a PPV card. UFC fans will have to tune in tomorrow night to see how everything unfolds.
