UFC 264 will be home to one of the biggest rematches and maybe one of the biggest fights of all time when Conor McGregor takes on Dustin Poirier. After their highly anticipated second fight in January of 2021 at UFC 257, their third fight will no doubt be the most bought pay-per-view of the year so far.
This has an easy answer. If Conor McGregor beats Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, Dana White might give him a title shot in the post-fight interview. With a win, McGregor moves to the very top of the lightweight division. McGregor is without a doubt the most famous UFC fighter of all time, and his ability to draw crowds is undeniable. His combination of ridiculous skill and charisma has made him one of the most impactful athletes of all time, and Dana White would not hesitate to give McGregor an immediate shot at the title if he can get past Poirier this Saturday. Read my take on what happens if Poirier wins here!
To be honest with you, it seems like he is past his prime in terms of fighting, but the man is just so entertaining that everyone and their mother will still watch. His brash nature and hilarious trash talk make him must-see TV. In my opinion, he is arguably the most impactful combat sports fighter to ever live. The late, great Muhammad Ali might be the only fighter close, but I think Conor McGregor has a slight edge in impact on his respective sport. Conor McGregor came into the UFC when it was nothing more than a circus act with a few popular fighters. In 24 months, McGregor transformed the entire company into a 3 billion dollar corporation.
I am a massive Conor McGregor fan so I am hoping for a quick knockout for the Champ Champ, but either way, this fight will be outstanding. Tune in Saturday, July 10th to see who will be the next #1 lightweight contender.
