It’s a good day to be a Texas Tech football fan. The transfer portal is running wild right now and the Red Raiders added a big piece along their defensive line. Texas Tech has won the sweepstakes for Lee Hunter who entered the transfer portal from UCF.
Matt Zenitz over at 247 Sports was the first to report the news:
As Zenitz’s tweet indicates, Hunter made an All-Big 12 second team selection in 2024. He didn’t make that list by accident. Hunter was listed in my stock report notes several times this season. If you watched UCF play, you know that guy is a total load in the middle.
Hunter, 6-foot-4, 320, will fit right into Shiel Wood’s 3-4 defense likely playing the nose right in as the anchor of the front.
This is also the second time Hunter has now transferred. He originally committed to Auburn as a four-star guy but didn’t see any real playing time there. He’s coming off a season where he posted 45 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, and a sack. Hunter led FBS for defensive lineman with 51 tackles in 2023. Hunter should be an NFL Draft pick a year from now. It’s a matter of how high. That part will depend on what kind of version we get out of him in 2025 with the Red Raiders. It’s a name for people to keep an eye on for the 2026 NFL Draft.
