Tyrann Mathieu Signs With The New Orleans Saints
Tyrann Mathieu has finally decided to sign with a team: The New Orleans Saints. Ian Rapoport was the first to report the news on the long-awaiting signing reported via Twitter:
This was one of the big names on the market that a plethora of teams was gunning for. Teams ranged from the Raiders, Eagles, Steelers, the Chiefs even tried to welcome him back, and eventually, the Saints were only a few teams interested in the Honey Badger. The Star Safety is now entering his 10th year in the NFL. He is a 3rd time Pro Bowler and a 3-time All-Pro first team. This is Tyrann’s 4th team in the NFL. He started his career in Arizona for 5 years. He has a short stint with the Texans. Then, Mathieu played the last 3 seasons with the Chiefs.
Tyrann Mathieu joins Marcus Maye and Marshon Lattimore in the secondary in what could be a rebuilding year for the Saints. However, the NFC is so weak the Saints might sneak in as a wild card team when it is all said and done. The appeal for Mathieu seems to be able to play for his hometown in New Orleans. While the Saints obviously get great talent to add to their secondary. He’s had 13 interceptions in his last 3 years with the Chiefs, half of his interception total for the year. In a division with Tom Brady, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin on 1 team where you have to play them twice a year. It makes sense for the Saints to shore up their secondary to get prepared for that. We’ll see how the Honey Badger does playing for his hometown team.
