I understand that the draft ball buster bruh crew may as well have taken a couple of fun walks trying to pronounce Tyler Shough, but we’ll attempt to do our best to get to the truth with the Louisville signal caller. Let’s review the 2025 NFL Draft profile in what might be the most fascinating quarterback to talk about in this entire class.
NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 5, Week 6, Week 8, Week 10, Tony The Tiger Sun Bowl
Shough, 25, was a four star recruiting coming out of high school, but that doesn’t really tell the story. The Chandler, Arizona, native was the number two player in Oregon’s 2018 recruiting class behind… Penei Sewell. He was the 6th rated pro style quarterback and number one player in all of the state of Arizona. Trevor Lawrence was first that year and he’s heading into NFL season number 5. Matt Corral was right in front of him and he’s already out of the league.
This is the thing about Shough. He’s kinda like a Latin American baseball player who lied about his age. If Shough were 21 right now, he’s a first round pick, and it’s really not a question. The problem is he’s 25 and lit it up when everyone else he’s competing against is significantly younger. Plus, add in a lengthy injury history track record that can’t be ignored.
Okay, I promise I’m done age-shaming. I’m just trying to do my job and totally not be pissed that I feel old as dirt myself! I hope that’s clear!
The predraft process has been kind to Shough. I don’t care what anybody says. He was the best quarterback at the Senior Bowl and it wasn’t close. Anybody who tells you Jaxson Dart or Jalen Milroe was better than Shough there is lying to you. His Combine was also impressive. He checks in at 6-foot-5, 219, and there’s no question he can spin it. Shough was also one of the few to actually run, and a 4.63 time sure works for me. Watching him, it was already clear the mobility was there.
This is the other thing about Shough. He’s never been untalented. He has talent. Shough was Justin Herbert’s back up once upon a time, and he was recruited to be the next Herbert. When you look at the guy… he kinda does look like Herbert in terms of play style. I’m just going to leave this here because the injury track record is the concerning part for me. I’ll say this. When the guy was healthy, he was pretty good at Texas Tech. This past year, Shough was actually healthy making 12 starts posting a 23-6 TD to INT ratio.
The other problem with Shough is that sometimes it’s like he did the Jim Cary thing and his alter ego mask turned into Mason Rudolph. When I say Mason Rudolph, I mean the one that has a dump in his pants and gives the ball to the other team thing. There are just times where the poise goes out the window and he turns into a slug that feels like he’s trying to help the other team win. Almost like a poker player who is good most of the time but then will lose his mind if he gets four bad hands in a row. Also, mostly a pocket passer, and you’re not getting any of those magical second play moments.
When it’s going good, the guy throws a really nice ball that looks like darts all over the field. Has no problem pushing the ball down the field. Pretty good arm talent and not unathletic.
I have no idea where Tyler Shough is going in the draft. I feel like I’m already too high on him for saying he’s a middle round pick. I like him more than most, but that also doesn’t mean I’m giving him the keys to run my franchise sort of thing either.
