The dumbest narrative in the NBA is finally being put to rest. The Golden State Warriors are 2-11 with the worst record in the NBA. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant are either hurt or gone. Golden State is ticketed for the worst record in basketball. It turns out that maybe that Kevin Durant guy was pretty good, huh. It turns out that the Warriors needed Kevin Durant, huh. If you were ever one of those people trying to say the Warriors didn’t need Kevin Durant, go light yourself on fire. Of course, the Warriors NEEDED KD.

Once Durant went down in the NBA Finals, the Warriors couldn’t even beat the Raptors in the Finals who were mostly a Kawhi Leonard one man show with a bag of parts. Sure, Klay Thompson also went down but he got hurt in the final game of the series. Steph Curry is no longer capable of leading a team by himself. The rest of the league is better and has caught up.

The Warriors are on a downhill trajectory for a lot of different reasons. A lot of them have gone unnoticed. Over the years, Golden State lost key bench piece after key bench piece. Of course, the media didn’t care because they were winning. It was Kevin Durant that was covering up for those sins. Leandro Barbosa, David West, Andre Igoudala, JaVale McGee, Shaun Livingston, etc. They added up and Durant covered those blemishes. Now, look at the Warriors bench. They’re just trotting out minimum contract guys and it’s killing them.

When healthy, Durant was sitting at the top of the throne as the best player in the world. Every single team needs Kevin Durant. He’s a walking high efficient bucket. There’s not a more valuable trait you want. KD is the guy who sank the Cavs with the dagger in back to back Finals. They needed him to beat Houston in the Conference Finals. They lost without him in the Finals against Toronto. The Warriors needed Durant and were somehow fooled into thinking they didn’t. Now Draymond Green can be miserable instead on the worst team in the NBA.
