Tre Jones Signs An Extension With The San Antonio Spurs

Tre Jones has signed an extension with the San Antonio Spurs. This was first reported by Woj on Twitter.

Tre Jones is back with the San Antonio Spurs for a 2-year, $20 million deal. Tre Jones made quite the impact on a rebuilding Spurs team last year. Jones posted a 12.9 PPG on 45.9% shooting, 6.6 APG, and 3.6 RPG stat line for the Spurs last year. The Spurs were smart to not let Tre Jones walk away easily and were able to get him for cheap for at least 2 more years.

Tre Jones is looking at the starting PG spot for the Spurs this year as San Antonio is continually looking to develop their very young and very promising core. This young core is all fighting for a spot on the team this year and for future years as the Spurs look to get back into the playoffs in a few years. If those young players are not with the Spurs, they might develop enough to go get a serious bag with other NBA teams.

Such is the case for Tre Jones. The 2-year deal works for him and the Spurs. He gets paid more than he did last year and has 2 years to prove that he deserves more money from either the Spurs or another NBA team around the league. He has a great opportunity to do that with only Devonte’ Graham to fight with for the starting PG spot.

Tre Jones should be the de facto starting PG for the Spurs and will have a great opportunity to show that he deserves to be the guy at PG for the Spurs going forward. The Spurs did smart business for themselves too. Not overpaying for a PG and progressing with their rebuild quite nicely after drafting Victor Wembanyama.
