Travis Kelce on Taylor Swift coverage: ‘They’re overdoing it’

The NFL has been doing their absolute best to cover the newest and biggest internet-breaking couple this year. Kansas City Chiefs standout tight end Travis Kelce and 49-time platinum artist Taylor Swift are now dating. Being the supportive girlfriend that she is, Swift recently visited Arrowhead Stadium for one of Kelce’s games. In doing so, the NFL and their coverage team gawked at the sign of the pop star, but let’s just say things are getting too out of hand.

The NFL has had their phones ready for this moment. Every signal time there is a Chiefs game on, you can bet the house that Taylor Swift’s name will be said at least 1,000 times.

With all the commotion going around, it’s getting a little too much for the everyday NFL fan. The first time Swift was seen at Arrowhead was cool and all, but the next 1,000 times, it gets downright annoying. It’s being blown out of proportion, and even Kelce can agree with the common NFL fan.

“It’s fun when they show who’s all at the game,” Travis said on the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast, according to Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated. “It brings a little more to the atmosphere, it brings a little bit more to what you’re watching, but at the same time … they’re overdoing it a little bit, especially my situation. They’re just trying to have fun with it.”

After her first appearance in Arrowhead stadium, ticket sales for Chiefs games skyrocketed due to the Swift madness. With Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers out, the Chiefs-Jets game in Week 4 quickly got boring for the common viewer leading up to tipoff.

Well, not to the Taylor Swift cult members. It has gotten so far that popular TV show “The Voice” did a segment before the Chiefs-Jets game. Carson Daly went all out in this segment, describing the Swift-Kelce madness with as many clever punchlines as you could imagine and strategically dropping Swift’s song titles and lyrics into the promotion.

Kelce’s brother and fellow NFL player, Jason Kelce, weighed in on his brother’s relationship fiasco.

“I just think the NFL is not used to celebrities coming to the games,” Jason Kelce, the Eagles’ center, said. “Like, basketball has it figured out. They’re all courtside, they’re sitting there. They show them once or twice, but they get back to the game.

The NFL is like, ‘Oh, look these A-list celebrities at the game.’ And keep showing them. … You can’t be overboard with it. People are there to watch the game.

I get that Taylor Swift is this worldwide celebrity and everyone wants to see her, but it’s just getting flat-out annoying at this point. Even my sister who doesn’t even watch football brought up how she wants to go to the Vikings-Chiefs game this week to see Swift. If you couldn’t tell, she is a big Swift fan.

NFL, this needs to stop, you’re overdoing it.
